When it comes to marketing, design is an important factor. Whether it is the design of a web page, landing page or email; the way it looks can help towards an increased interaction rate.

We want to make sure you are well informed about every aspect of marketing which includes the background features which you may not be aware of.

You may have already heard of HTML as a large majority of companies use this for coding and you may know some simple (or not so simple) HTML code already.

However, HTML5 is the newest addition to the coding family and in this post, we will answer the questions; what is HTML5 and why you should be using it now.

What is HTML5?

HTML5 is the latest version of Hyper Text Markup Language otherwise known as HTML. It is the programming language that allows developers to build and structure the elements that make up a webpage or application.

HTML5 is a combination of 3 different types of coding; HTML which sets the structure, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) which determines the presentation and Java script which makes things happen.

What are the benefits of using HTML5?

One of the biggest advantages to HTML5 is that you can use it do whatever you want on your site without the need to use additional software such as browser plugins.

HTML5 does it all; animations, videos, images… whatever you want, HTML5 can deliver it. Not only this, but as it is cross platform you can do this on any device you want from phones and tablets to Apple and Windows products

Another important feature of HTML5 is that it isn’t proprietary, so you don’t need to pay royalties to use it. This makes it perfect for any business to make use of from start-up to enterprise.

What makes HTML5 better?

One of the biggest changes which HTML5 brings is the ability to present video and audio on your site without having to use flash or an external media player.

This wasn’t possible in HTML4. Another new feature is the ability for users to access your website whilst not connected to a network (if they have visited previously whilst they were online). This is a big step for HTML and is great news for companies.

Other new features which HTML5 brings include Geolocation, which means that you can track where your website visitors are currently located. This needs initial permission from your visitors but can be a great tool to work out how far you are reaching and whether you are attracting visitors from your target locations, countries or towns.

Why should you use HTML5?

From a marketing perspective the arrival of HTML5 brings complete flexibility as well as creativity to creating content. It gives you the freedom to create content the way you want it without needing to have a large budget.

The cross platform functionality means it is easier for you to create your campaigns to be viewed on mobile or more static devices. As well as this, the introduction of geolocation makes reporting more accurate and focussed.

With the introduction of viewing web pages offline brings so many more possibilities. Now, a potential customer can see your campaign email, open the landing page or web page; perhaps they don’t have time to read it all now, so they leave the internet tab open. Now they can go back to this anytime and anywhere, even if they don’t have connection to a network.

This is great news if you are focussing your campaigns at industries who are frequently going out on site visits or work in a large factory or building with no internet. It means they can still view your content if they have connected to the page online once.

There are so many new features which will enhance not only your marketing campaigns but all your website content!
